Matias Skard (28 May 1846, Øyer – 28 July 1927) was a Norwegian philologist, educator, psalmist, essayist and translator, a brother of folklorist Johannes Skar.
He chaired the Vonheim folk high school from 1884 to 1890, and was manager for the Agder school district from 1901 to 1921. His Nynorsk dictionary from 1912, Nynorsk ordbok for rettskriving og literaturlesnad, has been basis for several later editions.[1][2] From 1886 to 1890 he was a co-editor of the newspaper Framgang.[3]
